2000 USSC Sign Design Competition

Outstanding design work earns top honors

Published

on

The United States Sign Council’s (USSC) eighth annual Sign Design Competition received more than 200 commercial- and electric-sign entries from association members. Judges Bart Forman, Forman Signs (Philadelphia), Phil Ghi, Ghi Sign Service (Canaan, CT), and Sue Kraus, Kraus Marketing Group (Trappe, PA), determined the winners.

Contest entries are typically judged on overall appearance, effectiveness and originality. In addition to being visually pleasing, the award-winning design work featured here provides proper identification and demonstrates an imaginative combination of materials and/or techniques.

The judges selected 12 winners for 11 categories. As a result of a judging tie in the "Sandblasted Signs" category, first-place honors were awarded to both The Design Shop (Staten Island, NY) and Countryside Signs (Rehoboth, MA). Baltimore-based Gable Signs & Graphics won the "Illuminated Building Signs," "Neon Signs," "Carved Signs" and "Multimedia" categories, and the company’s "Plum Crazy Diner" entry was named Best of Show.

All winning entries were displayed at the USSC Sign World USA tradeshow in Atlantic City, NJ, this past December, and are also featured in the USSC’s 2001 calendar.

For information about the association’s membership benefits and annual competition, call (215) 785-1922, or visit www.ussc.org.

Congratulations to all the winners.
