2022 Sign Contest: Best Outside Design/Shop Fabrication, Illuminated

“Emily’s Alley” photos by Nic Rentfrow of Grizzly Media

FIRST PLACE

Drawing on the innovative spirit of Denver resident Emily Griffith and her namesake opportunity school, these signs for The Slate Hotel, Tapestry Collection by Hilton’s mixed-use area, “Emily’s Alley,” showcase handcrafted accents, specific color matches and tooth-mark details. DaVinci used ¼-in. aluminum, ⅛-in. rolled aluminum, mask and Bondo to form the sculptures, as well as sign foam for the erasers. Bronzing powder for the centerpiece pencil’s paint application helps the entry shine.
