Adler Planetarium’s Moon Wall Celebrates Lunar Landing

NEC’s video wall shows live moon footage and lets users interact.

<p>In honor of the Apollo 11 moon landing’s 40th anniversary, Chicago’s Adler Planetarium has added an interactive Moon Wall, which comprises 12 NEC Display Solutions of America’s (Chicago) 46-in. MultiSync&reg; X461UN large-format displays. </p><p>As part of the Adler’s Shoot for the Moon permanent exhibition, the 4 x 4-ft. check wall ensures a clear picture by avoiding gaps between the displays. Ultra-thin bezels allowed the seamless assembly.</p></p><p>The Adler’s Moon Wall incorporates the most recent images from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) mission to the moon, launched in June 2009, allowing visitors to virtually fly over the surface of the moon using a joystick. </p><p>“The Adler’s Shoot for the Moon exhibition highlights not only the exciting stories of space exploration but also America’s bold plans to return to the moon,” said Doug Roberts, Ph.D., senior director of digital technology for the Adler Planetarium. “One of our major goals for the exhibition was to ensure that visitors, young and old alike, feel the sense of thrill and adventure in space exploration. NEC’s crucial part in the Moon Wall has helped us achieve our objective.”
