Adobe (San Jose, CA) is announcing the release of its Adobe PDF Print Engine 4 (APPE 4), a high-speed, high-fidelity print platform that, Adobe says, will deliver performance efficiencies and breakthrough color features that enable printers to increase workflow efficiency and capitalize on innovations. The company says it has partnering with leading manufacturers of digital presses, wide-format printers and digital front ends to advance best industry practices in packaging, labeling, textile, signage, ceramics, photography, publishing and personalized direct mail processes. The print engine features tile parallel processing that enhances its mercury RIP architecture and reduces overall rendering time for wide-format printers by sectioning such large assets as posters, signs or architectural drawing into smaller sections with each section assigned to separate CPU core. In addition, algorithms smooth out gradient blends, and expanded spot color handling allows access to 127 color channels. APPE 4 shares Adobe InDesign CC, Illustrator CC, Photoshop CC and Acrobat DC core technologies and is integrated into popular, next-generation prepress solutions.
