This replica of an original sign from the 1920’s in Madison, WI is 10 x 55 ft. and consists of two single-sided signs mounted back-to-back on steel framework. Sometime in the ’50s, the original was replaced with a galvanized, non-illuminated, hand-painted sign which fell into disrepair over the years. A loophole in local zoning laws allowed replacing the original sign as the only means to overcome the 32-sq.-ft. legal maximum. After studying historical photos carefully (Sign Art Studio even counted the light bulbs) the actual fabrication, painting and wiring took about seven months.
