Simoniz USA

To my grandparents, getting your car waxed or detailed meant getting your car “Simonized”. Simoniz sought to play up the company’s history with this new sign for its West Hartford, CT detail center. The 15-ft.-tall sign, which includes a 42-in.-diameter circle and 5 ft. 6 in.-long arrow, features a face made from 3/16-in.-thick, stepped acrylic. Graphics were produced with 3M translucent vinyl – except for the “The Garage”, which was fashioned from second-surface acrylic. The base cabinet was made from 0.063-in.-thick aluminum, and 36W CAO Group LuxemBright LED modules illuminate the face. Akzo Nobel’s acrylic-polyurethane coating covers all components.

Client
Washington Properties

Washington Properties wanted a new freestanding sign to promote this LEED Gold-certified, Silver Springs, MD apartment complex to younger prospective tenants. Cheshmedjiev designed the sign with CorelDRAW, Adobe Photoshop and EnRoute 4, and Mohamad Natour and Art Display’s fabrication staff built the signface from brushed stainless steel, created the rotating rings from polished stainless steel, and installed a 4-in.-diameter, steel-pipe support. The sign’s edge reflects light, which is emitted by blue SloanLED modules. The signface was routed with the shop’s MultiCam 3000 CNC router, and the logo was applied via ½-in.-thick, push-through acrylic decorated with white, translucent 3M vinyl.

K2 Rotor Lodge

K2 Sports’ David La designed the sign’s concept. With guidance from Commercial Displayers (Seattle, WA), Berry Sign Systems reconfigured the design using LED lighting components while keeping the appearance of neon. Berry’s Bob Mayer and Tom Reneau fabricated the sign with a Gerber Sabre 408 CNC router, Tennsmith metal shear and a power roller. To internally illuminate the sign, they installed CAO Group’s Blaze white and red LEDs with 60W power supplies. The helicopter weathervane is externally lit with CAO Group Dynasty S14 LED flood-lamps and spins freely on Dodge E-Z Kleen housed bearings. All metal components were protected with Matthews acrylic-polyurethane paint and backed with white polycarbonate and 3M Scotchcal translucent vinyl. Second-surface graphics were shaped with Spartech polycarbonate covered with 3M™ Scotchcal™ translucent vinyl.
