Client
Germain Lexus of Dublin (OH)

Although many “green” product initiatives were shelved during the economic downturn, demand for hybrid-technology vehicles continually grew (gas prices in excess of $3 per gallon provide ample motivation). To promote the Lexus Hybrid HS 250h, Germain Lexus hired Chute Gerdeman to develop a showroom display to engage prospective buyers. Matt Jeffries, Chute Gerdeman’s senior designer for brand communications, said. “A key design challenge was illustrating the intricate interplay between gas and electrical fuel systems within the car’s engine in an easy-to-understand manner.”
To achieve this, CG Retail One, Chute Gerdeman’s production team, designed a series of acrylic panels which highlight the gas components in orange, and electric components in green on a graphic, to depict a cross-section around the car that resembles a colorful X-ray. The promotional message expands from the vehicle display to cling-vinyl graphics at the entrance, brochure kiosks and a video-display screen.

Best known for creative, eye-catching, grand-format digital graphics, Ferrari Color shows its versatility through this retail-graphic display for West Elm’s 35 stores, which sell upscale home furnishings. Ferrari’s fabrication team built the 8-ft.-tall trees and branch arches using ¼-in.-thick, maple veneer, ½-in.-thick Bioboard™ printable, wood-alternative sheet and fluted cardboard. The shop cut these materials on its MultiCam Version 7 iCut CNC router.

Dana Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI)

DFCI administrators wanted to express gratitude to their benefactors through an innovative donor-recognition wall. Roll Barresi & Associates created its design to symbolize color-coded gene sequences and their role in gene-therapy breakthroughs and their benefits. The display comprises two, 40 x 5-ft. walls that feature 2,600 tiles individually illuminated with programmable RGB LEDs. The display cycles through 10 patterns, designed to symbolize genes, with a “soothing” color transition. Donors are recognized with a screenprinted inscription on their choice of tiles. Adjacent LCD flatscreens provide information about gene-therapy research.
