Several entries submitted this year contained simulations of tank-style wheels that frame the vehicle’s wheel wells. However, this entry’s creative use of bright, fiery colors, the Army-esque logo stamp and rivets, and the consistent graphic quality across the entire surface overwhelmingly swayed the judges. Honestly, the “scorched-earth” background probably added ambience (kudos to Awthentik for using California’s protracted drought to its advantage). The graphics comprise Avery Dennison Graphic Solutions MPI 1005 Supercast Easy Apply RS media, which was printed on its Roland SolJet Pro 4 XR-640 solvent-ink printer. Awthentik cut black sections of material by hand from the windows for added effect, and to maintain drivers’ visibility. Applied on a Pro-Lam machine, the Avery DOL 1060 glossy laminate will preserve the vivid yellows and oranges. Awthentik’s Josh Tolbert said, “We’ve never seen a car wrap generate so many mobile-phone photos until this car hit the streets!”

Tuner Goods

A vehicle-aftermarket-products purveyor without a compelling vehicle wrap equates to a shoeless cobbler. The vehicle is a Hyundai Genesis coupe, but it sports an 800-hp Corvette LS3 motor under the hood, so no milquetoast graphics would suffice. Mendoza employed the popular riveted-metal “fighter plane” theme, and the star and stripes on the rear quarter-panel evoke the popular 1980s movie Top Gun (young’uns, Google “Top Gun the need for speed”, and you’ll get the idea). The shop produced the wrap with Avery Dennison’s MPI 1005 Supercast Easy Apply RS on its HP DesignJet L26500 latex-ink printer. Applied with an EnduraLam BU-1700zj, Avery Dennison’s DOL 1360 glossy overlaminate, will keep Tuner Goods’ souped-up ride ready for flight for years to come.

THIRD PLACE
Fabricator/Designer/Installer

McCullough Creative

Client
John Deere Worldwide Construction and Forestry Div.

To complement John Deere’s recent ConExpo theme of “Building. Together.”, this support truck’s wrap featured the faces of the customers who helped improve John Deere machines. The truck was wrapped, modified and sent to Las Vegas, where it served as the actual stage for their main presentation. McCullough designed the wrap with Adobe Creative Cloud, and printed it with Avery MPI 1005 Supreme vehicle-wrap film on its Mutoh ValueJet 1624 printer. Other, complementary graphics were produced with Avery Conform chrome-finish, textured-metallic media, and a Graphtec FC8000 cutting plotter and Océ Arizona 460 GT flatbed printer generated other graphic elements.
