Saint Agnes Hospital Center

A hospital or other healthcare facility’s sign program must, in addition to providing wayfinding and information, project an image of comfort or competence. Founded in Baltimore in 1862 by the Sisters of Charity, Saint Agnes is a 342-bed, full-service hospital best known for its neurology and pulmonary practices. This dignified program features interior-corridor graphics that entail frosted, ½-in.-thick glass panels encased within stainless-steel fasteners, and a stainless-steel logo and letters. Fluorescent-tube lighting provides warm backlighting. Exterior signage comprises glass with applied, routed-acrylic letters installed over welded-tube frames, backlit by fluorescents, and installed on a stone-veneer base with aluminum accents.

Kleiner Park Trust

Touted by the Boise Weekly as Meridian, ID’s “newest and largest green space”, Julius M. Kleiner Memorial Park, built at a cost of $25 million according to the Idaho Statesman, offers 60 acres and 3.3 miles of walking and bike paths. Gene Kleiner built the park to honor his father, a Russian immigrant who settled in Idaho and became a prominent dairy farmer and civic leader.

Such expansive parkland requires an equally extensive sign program. Trademark Sign’s program divides the park into four regions; each contains its own color palette and iconography. The wayfinding towers comprise steel protected with Cardinal powdercoating, and signs fabricated from porcelain enamel. The metal was formed on a MultiCam 3000 CNC router and metal brakes, benders and welding equipment. The archway sign’s letters were built from brushed, cast aluminum and pin-mounted to the steel structure. Matthews acrylic-polyurethane paint protects the sign from harsh Idaho winters.

Cypress Equities

Cypress Equities, the owner of Corona, CA’s The Shops at Dos Lagos, sought a prominent sign system to call attention to the property, which showcases expansive walkways and unique water features. Superior built the double-faced, pylon entry sign – which measures 54 x 24 ft. – from steel angle and aluminum-sheet overlays. A 20mm Daktronics Galaxy Pro RGB LED display beckons to passing motorists. An existing 54 x 18-ft. sign that faces the passing freeway was repurposed to provide an additional advertising platform for on-premise stores. Directional signs were fabricated from aluminum faces with copy fashioned from 3M white, reflective vinyl. Entry-monument signs were modified with aluminum-column caps and ½-in.-thick, clear acrylic that’s decorated with 3M frosted, clear vinyl. Metal was processed on the shop’s MultiCam 3000 CNC router. The wavy shape and azure color, which Miller designed using CorelDRAW X5, reference the two nearby lakes (thus, Dos Lagos).
