The American Sign Museum (Cincinnati) has named David Dupee as its new executive director, according to a press release. He began work on April 22.

“The Sign Museum is excited to welcome David as our next director,” Michael Mattingly, ASM board chair, is quoted in the press release. “He was selected from a pool of more than 100 talented candidates from around the country. David has a proven track-record of leadership and is a great fit as the Museum works to expand its cultural impact on the local, regional, and national communities.”

A Cincinnati native, Dupee has dedicated the past decade to helping launch and scale mission-driven organizations. Lawyer by training and social entrepreneur at heart, he co-founded Good City Brewing, a Milwaukee craft brewery. Good City has expanded to four locations, including a taproom that anchors the Milwaukee Bucks’ Entertainment Deer District. Founded with his business partner in 2016, the brewery was named 2018 Milwaukee Small Business of the Year and a 2019 Future 50 Company. Along with Good City, Dupee also founded an investment crowdfunding platform devoted to democratizing access to capital for small businesses. He played an active role in advising the Wisconsin legislature on Assembly Bill 350, helping to create the first intrastate crowdfunding exemption passed by a state legislature.

“I’m excited to return to my hometown to help lead the ASM into exciting future growth that advances its mission to celebrate America’s rich sign heritage through preservation and education,” Dupee stated in the release. “Whether you want to call it nostalgia or something else, I believe these memories are essential to cultivating an overall sense of place that ultimately helps root us in our communities, I couldn’t be more excited to help lead the ASM through this next phase of its development.”
