Clear Channel Airports (CCA), Chicago, the leading marketer of airport advertising, has teamed with multimedia company Monster Media to create a network of gesture-based digital signage to be featured in U.S. airports. The first installation, a motion-detecting wall display, is at the Seattle–Tacoma Intl. Airport’s (Sea-Tac’s) Central Terminal, with plans for a June 1 launch.
Gesture technology enables a full-body, interactive experience and allows for dynamic, multimedia imagery to be integrated with branded messaging.
The wall display is presented on an LCD monitor that comprises nine, 46-in. screens arranged in a 3 x 3-ft. square grid pattern. The entire unit, including the framework, measures to 91 x 144 in. The multi-touch LCD screen functions as both digital signage and a presentation system for conveying multimedia information. Users interact with multi-touch applications by pointing at or touching the screen.
CCA handles more than 200 airport programs internationally. CCA has a presence in 32 of the top 50 U.S. markets with major airports. According to Airports Council Intl.’s annual traffic report, Sea-Tac, the nation’s 18th-busiest airport, served more than 31.3 million passengers in 2009.
