DaVinci Sign Systems (Windsor, CO) is now an employee-owned company, The Cheyenne Post reports.

Founder John Shaw wanted to leave a legacy and reward staff for their dedication, the article explains. His solution was to transition his shop to an employee-owned company via an ESOP (Employee Stock Options Plan), which allows shares of the company to be transferred to workers.

In October, a Massachusetts shop called Sign Design Inc. underwent the same transition. Ron Ferrigno, the shop’s vice president and general manager, said becoming an employee-owned company will help workers assume the responsibility that comes with ownership. “We want our employees to act and think like owners and directly benefit from our continued success,” he said.

DaVinci Sign Systems has served the Rocky Mountain region with custom and high-end signage since 2004, winning a handful of awards from the International Sign Association and World Sign Association along the way.

There are more than 7,000 ESOPs in the US with about 14 million participants.
