“Who wants it more?” the banners demanded. At the 2007 NFL Kickoff, the Colts and the City of Indianapolis proved to want it more. Sport Graphics (Indianapolis) was in charge of spreading football fever, and it had to spread like a superbug: the 1,500 signs had to be designed, printed and installed in less than two weeks.

Banners, some as large as 75 x 75 ft., were draped over the exteriors of skywalks, the Chase Building, Monument Circle and elsewhere. The city’s street-light poles were adorned with 460 banners, and nearly 200 trashcans were wrapped with graphics promoting the face-off between Peyton Manning and Reggie Bush, plus all the kickoff festivities. Indy’s airports touted the game via jetway carpet clings and fascia boards at baggage claims.

All of the signs were printed with HP Scitex XL1500s and Mimaki JV3s. Some of the largest banners, like the one hanging from Chase bank, were printed on Clear Focus (Santa Rosa, CA) perforated window film, but most were on mesh. It was enough to evoke that tailgating feeling for two weeks straight.
