THIS IS A COMPETITION where teams change into sleeveless shirts in the middle of their performances, then proceed to blow the audience away with their show all the while giving them a good laugh.

The first official Colorado Sign Association (CSA; Glendale, AZ) Install Competition was hosted on June 28 by Sign Shop Illuminated (Colorado Springs, CO), and saw four teams of two sign installers each go head to head. All participants are members of CSA.

During this competition the installers were provided with a pattern, channel letter set and necessary supplies and materials, says CSA President and Sign Shop Illuminated Managing Partner Louis DeSantis. “The installers were required to install the channel letter set and complete the electrical portion as well. Everything that would be required in a true project installation in the field.”

Several factors determined the winner and all held equal weight, DeSantis adds. “Some of those included time, accuracy of installation measurements on the wall, wiring, teamwork, job site clean up, etc.”

“Everyone really enjoyed watching their teams compete against other sign companies across the state. There was a sense of pride in having their team out there,” DeSantis says. “There were individuals in the crowd that never saw an installation performed and were blown away by how much work it took to install channel letter sets. It was a great learning experience for them to understand what the guys go through out in the field.”
