8 is International Women’s Day which celebrates the social, economic and political achievements of women around the world. The day also brings international awareness to the ongoing struggle for gender equality.

13 On MARCH 13, the US begins Daylight Saving Time. Yes, it’s “saving” and not “savings,” as everyone pronounces it. It might be dark again for a while when you wake up — depending on how far west you live in your time zone — but everyone can enjoy that extra hour of sun at the end of the day!

17 of course, is St. Patrick’s Day, which in addition to being a lot o’ fun, offers numerous opportunities for temporary signage at bars and restaurants everywhere. It also offers a rare annual glimpse into Irish cuisine. Are you brave enough to try making boxty?

20 This year, MARCH 20 is the first day of spring, not March 21, so get your spring wardrobe ready a day early. Also the date of the “vernal equinox,” after today, the days really start getting longer — to complement Daylight Saving(!) Time.
