Delcam Plc (Birmingham, U.K.) is introducing ArtCAM Insignia 2011 R2, a software package for 2-D and 3-D modeling. The company incorporated 3-D modeling functionality from ArtCAM Pro; the new package includes vector drawing tools and allows 2-D designs to be transformed into 3-D shapes, or machined as they are. Designers can also start with imported 3-D models or transform vector artwork into 3-D shapes with the software’s shape-creation tools.

Other features include a “two rail sweep” tool for creating 3-D sweep shapes (selecting a number of open vectors to represent the edges and cross sections of the 3-D relief). A host of other new functions includes the erase and smooth sculpting tools, which allow designers to undo changes and smooth portions of a design.
