3 The first Friday of June, is National Doughnut Day. In 1917 during World War I, the original “Salvation Army Doughnut” was first served by the women of that organization. A morale boost to the troops, the doughnuts were often cooked in oil inside the metal helmets of American soldiers, then called “doughboys.” These days the word is usually spelled “donut.”

12 On JUNE 12, you have the option to celebrate National Children’s Day … but then isn’t every day children’s day? President Clinton proclaimed the first such occasion in 1995, then President G.W. Bush later moved the date to the second Sunday in June. Hey … it’s up to you!

17 National Eat Your Vegetables Day on JUNE 17 falls in the middle of National Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month. And if your children have a problem with that, remind them you just celebrated National Children’s Day only five short days ago.

27 Seriously, though, JUNE 27 is National Ptsd Awareness Day. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) has a profound effect on the lives of those who suffer from it. If you know someone who struggles with PTSD, let them know you care and are there to help.
