Finest Kind Signs Gets Brazen for Rhode Island Pub

This upscale pub, which is located in Westerly, RI, required an appropriately crafted sign to match its rustic settings and gourmet fare. Cameron Bortz, proprietor of Finest Kind Signs (Pawcatuck, CT), fabricated a projecting sign and two façade-mounted signs. The projecting, which was built from Sign•Foam HDU over an internal steel frame, features handcarved lettering that’s decorated with 23k goldleaf. Bortz designed and constructed the support bracket in-house, then mounted it to the brick wall underneath with throughbolts and plates. He built the hen with layers of glued Sign•Foam that’s chiseled and carved. Bortz protected it with a West System epoxy hardshell coating and embellished the hen with 1Shot lettering enamels.
The façade signs feature handcarved Sign•Foam letters with 23k goldleaf. They’re mounted to base panels made from carved Sign•Foam, which is fortified with a sublayer of Alupanel aluminum-composite material. The signs’ cedar frames are integrated into the building’s architectural details. A gilded panel sign was incorporated into the glass transom, and gilded with 23.75-, 18- and 12k leaf and decorated with custom-mixed 1Shot.
