Sign Museum Starts a Garden

The American Sign Museum (Cincinnati) recently added a piece of Queen City history. Porcelain enamel letters from the since-demolished Cincinnati Gardens were installed to spell out “CINCINNATI Sign GARDEN” in front of the museum’s boneyard. As ST previously reported, the Gardens’ letters were donated by the Greater Cincinnati Redevelopment Authority, which acquired the former entertainment venue. The museum shuffled the “S” in “GARDENS” to go after “CINCINNATI,” then had “ign” fabricated in a lower case script. “The integrity of the original letters was maintained, plus the word ‘Sign’ was emphasized,” said Tod Swormstedt, founder of the museum. Cincinnati-based Klusty Sign Associates engineered and installed the letters.
