Mutoh America Inc. (Phoenix) is unveiling the Blizzard series, a high-performance, variable-drop, mild-solvent printer family. These printers produce 430 sq. ft./hr. of output and can reach top speeds of 861 sq. ft./hr. in production mode. An addition to the company’s Spitfire Extreme mild-solvent printer family, the printer line comprises two models: the Blizzard 65 (with a 64.5-in. printing width) and the Blizzard 90 (with a 87.8-in. printing width).

The Blizzard series prints directly onto standard, uncoated vinyl, banner and soft signage. The machines, targeted at small sign businesses that need versatility, or larger operations, can produce corporate signs, stage and window graphics, backlit box signage, construction announcements, vehicle graphics, and such indoor graphics as photo blowups and floor graphics.

The new printers feature a high-end LCD display with a blue background and white text, and a large viewing window. The integrated light source allows production monitoring and facilitates maintenance operations.

The Blizzard series, a 2 x 4 CMYK, features two head sets in a micro-staggered layout (one color per head), which allows speed-oriented production and top-quality print work, the company says. Each of the eight, incorporated, drop-on-demand, piezo-inkjet heads contains 2 x 180 nozzles. Each 180-nozzle row is delivered by an independent ink channel. Using variable-dot imaging technology, each ink droplet individually adjusts to provide high speed and high quality with low ink consumption. Each head allows print resolutions of 360 x 360 dpi, 720 x 360 dpi, 540 x 720 dpi and 720 x 720 dpi.
