In America, protest marches and rallies usually entail signing dirge-like songs or displaying abundant anger and fury. The approximately 60,000 protesters who picketed the annual British Conservative Party (aka Tories) conference by marching from Xoford to Liverpool Rd. carried some downright mirthful signage that conveyed opposition to proposed fiscal-austerity plans, according to the Manchester Evening News. If you want to know the mood or personality of a gathering or a community, just look at the signs.
