ERIC CHATS WITH Al Barna and Randall Ann Homan, founders of San Francisco Neon, “a tiny not-for-profit organization that advocates for the artistic legacy of historic neon signs,” according to their website, sfneon.org. Al and Randall Ann are also the producers of Neon Speaks, an annual international festival and symposium celebrating the past and future of neon.

Years ago with the help of Kickstarter, the two not only funded a book celebrating area vintage neon, but more importantly, they found a community of passionate enthusiasts who share their love of original neon. They offer seven walking tours of San Francisco and one of nearby Alameda.

Listen to find out more about what Al and Randall Ann are doing to preserve neon signs that have been lighting the Bay Area for as long as 80 years.
