Sherwin-Williams (Warrensville Heights, OH) manufactures Genesis® LV single-stage automotive finishes, which it offers as a sign-coating product. The two-component, urethane coating system implements two mixing clearcoats, which allow the creation of flat-, satin-, semi-gloss- and gloss-finish coatings. Sherwin-Williams provides easy-to-apply mix ratios that comply with VOC-emission regulations. According to the company, Genesis’ high-performance qualities that protect against humidity, extreme temperatures, graffiti and chemical and UV exposure. The coating system also features Sherwin-Williams’ Color Works® color-selection system, which the company states allows a coating to be taped within an hour, which facilities complex designs with multiple hues and stripes.
Sherwin-Williams also offers GA6100, a high-build additive. According to the company, adding 1 to 3 oz. per gallon to Genesis or other, single-stage topcoats will increase the wet-film build by up to 100%. High-build additives are recommended for applications that include sharp or laser-cut edges because the film build provides edge protection.
