No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

We had a vicious wind storm and a car-dealer customer sent me a photo of a very large sign (which we did not do) that had snapped off at the base plate and fallen on a pickup truck, crushing the roof down to the top of the seats. I dropped everything, pulled a crew off another job and sent them to help. As we started to lift the sign, at about three feet up it fell apart and landed on the pickup roof again. Someone who worked there was videoing the whole thing. Somehow the dealer’s insurance company saw this video. They then had the nerve to inform us that we were going to be liable for the truck damage as it was not totaled until the sign was dropped on it the second time.
