Signmaker Stephen Salzberg recently wrote to share his thoughts on sign design: My purpose is to alert upscale facilities that poor sign design, like rust, gradually erodes the sophistication of a new structure it’s identifying. Accordingly, I am championing the call for capable signage designers to be hired in lieu of on-campus employees, whose qualifications sometimes border on two-color yard sale signs.

As the former founder and principal of Corporate Image of Illinois, an architectural sign design and consultation firm that enjoyed over 37 years of serving Chicagoland’s trophy properties with upscale signage, I find it tragic that, especially in Florida, sign design takes a back seat to the repeating mantra, “How cheap can we get it?”
