The Sign Research Foundation (SRF; Alexandria, VA) has published On-Premise Signage: Situations, Legibility & Visibility Guidelines for Traffic Safety by authors Keith Davis of KRD Design (Chester Springs, PA) and independent creative consultant Mark Jenkinson, according to a press release.

Divided into three sections geared toward planners, designers and sign owners, the manual breaks down the science behind sign visibility and offers an educational tool that can be used to test design concepts. Specifically, it details the impacts of sign size on visibility and readability, sign placement principles for optimal legibility, and design considerations that influence legibility such as color contrasts, types and sign area calculations.

The manual, along with most SRF research, is available for $29.95.
