The Museum Of Neon Art Continues Online Programming, To Resume Walking Tours in April

‘Chinatown Lights’ and ‘Architecture and Light – Miracle Mile’ are among the coming events.

The Museum of Neon Art (MONA; Glendale, CA) has launched “inventive online programming” in March and will resume in-person, socially-distanced walking tours beginning in April.

Live Online Programming

Liquid Fire- Signs, Spirits, and Stories with Eric Lynxwiler
6:30 p.m.
March 24
$5 for members; $10 for non-members
Zoom
This National Cocktail Day, Museum patrons can enjoy a night on the town without leaving the comfort of their home. Participants can tune in to Zoom at 6:30 p.m. on March 24 with their favorite cocktail or mocktail. Guests may choose to participate in an optional drinking game inspired by neon possessive apostrophes.

Neon Night Walks (In Person tours)
In person tours will be limited to 15 people, and tickets are available on a first come, first served basis. To ensure the safety of all, guests will be asked to wear masks and maintain a distance from people outside of their household/pod during the tour.

Chinatown Lights
Walking Tour – Guided by Eric Evavold

$20 for members; $25 for non-members
Trace the history of Chinatown from its origins near Union Station to its reimagining and establishment to this day. A story told through light; highlighting the signs that set the stage in Noir Film and the lighting design that spoke of hope and Chinese American success.

Architecture and Light – Miracle Mile
Walking Tour – Guided by Eric Evavold
6:30-8 p.m.
April 18
$20 for members; $25 for non-members
Enjoy a walk down Wilshire Boulevard and witness how architecture and lighting worked together to tell stories and sell glamour in the 1920’s. Learn how the Miracle Mile paved the way for car centered expansion in Los Angeles and see new restoration and reuse projects bloom into the light through neon and neon references.

Walking Tour – with Eric Lynxwiler

April 16-17; May 14-15
$20 for members; $25 for non-members
Join Urban Anthropologist and Neon Historian Eric Lynxwiler, MONA Board President, and co-author of “Spectacular Illumination: Neon 1925-1965”, “Wilshire Boulevard: Grand Concourse of Los Angeles” and “Signs of Life: Los Angeles is The City of Neon” for an illuminating journey through the history of Wilshire Center/ Koreatown, as centered through the buildings and signs that surround the former Ambassador Hotel.

Echo Park Night Walk
Walking Tour- Guided by Paul Greenstein, and Corrie Siegel
6:30-8 p.m.
April 15
Tickets for in person tours will be $20 for museum members and $25 for general audiences
Evangelism, Electric Signs, and Early Hollywood come to light on this mile and half walk. Get a behind-the-bulb history of Echo Park’s signage with Neon Expert Paul Greenstein, and MONA Executive Director Corrie Siegel.

MONA will also be hosting on-demand online programming.
