William and Margaret Stage, authors of Ghost Signs: Brick Wall Signs in America, offer another tribute to classic, handpainted wall signs with The Painted Ad: A Postcard Book of Vintage Brick Wall Signs. The book features 25 black-and-white and color photos of painted billboards completed in the early 20th Century in cities big and small throughout the U.S. Arthur Krim, a founding member of the Society for Commercial Archaeology, an organization devoted to preserving and documenting signs, symbols and related artifacts, wrote a foreword for the publication. The book is available from Floppinfish Publishing Co.
