HP (Eden Prairie, MN) is unveiling the Colorspan 9840UV, an industrial-grade, UV-flatbed printer. The machine accommodates roll stock or rigid sheets up to 98 in. wide and 2.75 in. thick — up to six rigid panels can be printed simultaneously — and offers a belt-driven, media-feed system and 16, 600 dpi, Micro-Quad™ piezo-electric printheads. The 9840UV offers a max-imum resolution of 600 x 600 dpi and operates at a maximum print speed of 811 sq. ft./hr.

Additional features include a 12-in., color, touchscreen display panel that provides status levels for the ink, vacuum, UV lamps and media; SolaChrome™ UV-curable, CMYK pigment inks, which arrive in a sealed, 3-liter container that allows mess-free ink changes without light exposure; an "automation eye," which features a high-resolution imaging sensor, a colorimetric spectrophotometer that provides color and density data to the RIP's color-management software; and embedded software that facilitates setup and calibration. The program reads color swatches to create custom, ICC profiles.
