Rabbit Hash, KY, population 315, sits along the banks of the Ohio river in the northernmost part of the Bluegrass State. The city’s name is derived from a popular rabbit stew that became a staple of the region after the great flood of 1847 drove the local rabbits to higher ground.

The city’s General Store has been operational since 1831, and attracts visitors seeking old-timey sundries, antique record albums and tourist trinkets. But, on this sunny day, we were there for the signs, and on that count, Rabbit Hash certainly delivered.

Did we mention that city residents recently voted a local dog to be the town’s mayor?

Transport yourself back in time with this gallery of Rabbit Hash’s secret treasure trove of vintage signs. And if you visit there yourself, tell them Signs of the Times sent you. 😉

The Rabbit Hash General Store suffered a fire in 2016 but has been painstakingly rebuilt to its former (ahem) glory. Sadly, the original Coke sign was lost.

Barn wood and tin signs. If this photo doesn’t make you consider a road trip, you might be on the wrong website.

The Rabbit Hash Artworks sign fits right in, with equal parts handmade whimsy and selfie-ready seating.

Walk around long enough and the rusted signs begin to reveal themselves.

Rabbit Hash attracts large groups of motorcycle… let’s say “afficionados.” This Indian sign reflects that attraction.

If you’ve ever been to Kentucky, then you know how much they enjoy an ice-cold Ale81. “It Glorifies.”

If Ale81 isn’t your thing, how about a bubbly 7up and an Oh Henry! chocolate bar?

Barn wood and old signs go together like peanut butter and jelly!

Don’t call this number if you need service anytime soon. Handpainted vehicle graphics such as this are a real treat to find “out in the wild.”

More rusty petroliana, or antiques related to gas stations, are lurking just outside of easy view.

This Horizon Seeds sign is almost hidden by the spring flora sprouting everywhere this time of year.

It’s unclear if this sign is for fun or if it means serious business. We kept our eyes open just in case. 😉
