West Oaks Mall

Lorenc+Yoo Design (Roswell, GA), with alliances across the U.S., Dubai and Korea, has designed such memorable signwork as the ultra-modern, 50-ft.-tall, Samsung Rising Hand Sculpture seen at the Frankfurt, Kiev and Toronto airports. You might have also admired its designs at Gaylord Palms (Kissimmee, FL); the WindCreek Casino and Hotel (Atmore, AL); Greektown Casino and Resort, (Detroit); the West Oaks Mall (Ocoee, FL), and numerous more.
The West Oaks Mall food-court channel letters aren’t spectacular in themselves, but the overall sign, meaning the integration of crowning spikes, displays how supplementary design can favorably complement channel letters’ everyday image.
Jan Lorenc, the firm’s president and director of design, said his team took its sign design cue from West Oak’s exposed beams. They wanted to accent the food-court sign, and, as well, accent the arch and truss architecture.
The sign’s spires, fabricated from gold-tinted glass with a gold-sphere terminus, are backlit by architectural fixtures. The reverse, “Café” channel-letter lights spill onto back plates, and the curved component behind “Food Court” contains backlit neon.
Design Communication (Boston, Orlando, NYC) fabricated the sign for General Growth Properties (Chicago).
