Worldwide Graphics & Sign Helps SHP Design Fulfill Green Mission

SHP Leading Design, a Cincinnati-based architectural firm, was founded in 1901, and has thrived for more than a century through successful adaptation. To reflect the firm’s commitment to environmentally sustainable practices, the company hired Worldwide Graphics & Sign Co., also of Cincinnati, to create eco-friendly environmental graphics for its Cincinnati and Columbus (OH) studios. For the Cincinnati office, Christian Beebe, Worldwide’s owner, created a series of panels that emphasize its “green" practices or identify office rooms. He made them with birch backpanels and dimensional, acrylic discs, and cut the panels to shape on the shop’s Zund G3 digital cutter.

Worldwide printed the panels on the shop’s Fuji Acuity UV-cure-ink flatbed printer (Beebe said low- or no-VOC printing was a top priority for the client). Banner tape secures the protruding acrylic to the wood, and 3M VHB tape fastens the panels to the wall because the customer didn’t want holes in the wall.

For both locations, Worldwide created digitally printed wallcoverings that comprise a pattern of circles — some of the circles are filled in with years, which creates a playful rendition of a timeline, with a fitting tagline, “….And Counting.” The wallcoverings were printed with 3M’s Scotchcal IJ35C-10 air-release media that’s printed on the Fuji and cut on the Zund.
