FIRST PLACE
This 5.5 x 18-ft. sign, which spans across the restaurant of former Paul Revere & the Raiders member Mark Lindsay, is sure to draw in Hungry patrons. The channel border is illuminated with 15mm, ruby-red neon, while the white script is 12mm, white neon, all by EGL. The 3-in. deep, pan-channel “Rock & Roll” lettering sports 15mm, noviol gold neon tubing and contains nearly 700 Sunlan Lighting Inc. bulbs with candelabra bases. The “Café” is push-through acrylic, backlit by three recessed, 6-in. lights. The fabricators utilized high-gloss Matthews paints.
SECOND PLACE
It’s a good thing Cancun Cantina is one of the largest nightclubs in Maryland; if it were any smaller, there wouldn’t be enough room for all that renegade attitude. Honestly, where else are you going to find a bar with a sign that features a built-in fog machine?
That customer-supplied fog machine is installed inside the nostrils of the steer skull, which is halo-lit with blue, Voltarc sparking neon, and accents the eyes with LEDlight Inc.’s red-LED clusters. The letters are 4-ft.-high with exposed, red neon.
THIRD PLACE
The only thing missing from this theatre is a line of limousines unloading celebrities for a glitzy movie premiere. This multiplex harkens back to the golden age of cinema with a bright, 17 x 170-ft marquee.
The 13 x 61-ft. blade sign has an internal steel frame attached to the building. The monumental signage duo comprises more than 3,500 ft. of 15mm EGL’s E60 casino gold, 15mm Voltarc 8300 white and 15mm, Technolux 118 ruby-coated neon, plus 1,334 CFL bulbs. But, it’s not just bright, it’s light: Both signs are constructed from lightweight-aluminum, square tube structures with 1⁄8-in., aluminum skins.
