Devcon (Danvers, MA) is offering Plastic Welder™ SD (sandable) adhesive for bonding PPO, PVC and various polyesters, polycarbonates, styrenics and composites where filler material must be sanded to a smooth, nonporous finish. Its low-exotherm formula reportedly exhibits no expansion or foaming. The structural methacrylate adhesive requires little surface preparation, fills gaps, bonds to fiberglass without sagging and can be used to join engineering plastics to dissimilar substrates, such as metals, ceramic and wood, the company reports. The product’s bonds are resistant to weathering, impact and peeling, and withstand service temperatures to 250°F. It has a working time of 4 to 5 minutes and functionally cures in 2 to 4 hours at room temperature.
