The Ignite Sign Art Museum in Tuscon, AZ has earned a Governor’s Heritage Honor Preservation Award, presented annually by the Arizona Preservation Foundation and Arizona State Historic Preservation Office.
The museum was one of 10 projects and individuals in The Grand Canyon State to receive the award, which honors achievements in preserving Arizona’s history.
Jude Cook and his wife, Monica Hay Cook, opened the museum in 2018. “It is nice to get recognition for what we are doing here,” Jude told Tuscon.com.
Jim McPherson, president of the board of the Arizona Preservation Foundation, told the outlet that recognizing efforts to save vintage and neon signage is relatively new for the organization. In an email, he said there is “growing popularity among preservation advocates and communities … to save and restore such features.”
On Facebook, Ignite Sign Art Museum announced its award via a recently acquired split-flap sign. The museum’s plan is to use it to welcome visitors and post announcements.
