ArtFX Decks Out Health Center with New Signage

Medical facilities are often perceived as foreboding, sterile places, with signage and graphics that could only be defined as "institutional" (read: ugly and uninviting). Many children’s hospitals and pediatrician offices have bucked these trends by adorning walls and open spaces with colorful designs, but even adults receiving medical services appreciate welcoming environments.

To that end, ArtFX Signs (Bloomfield, CT) developed a colorful, fun room-ID program for Middletown, CT’s Community Health Center that provides medical care to children and families with few resources. Graphic artist Vance Klein designed the program of "pod" signs that comprise sections of 1/2-in.-thick PVC borders and ribbing, which are covered with kerfed, 1/4-in.-thick PVC. The shop printed the graphics with pressure-sensitive vinyl that’s laminated to the faces.
