The ArtWorks Love Wins mural, a collaboration with Cincinnati Pride that commemorates 50 years of Pride celebration in the city, is nearing completion according to a press release.
For the past six weeks, Teaching Artists Daniel Baker and Orion Inez, along with 12 ArtWorks apprentices aged 18 to 21, have been painting the mural in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood of the city, above Queen City Radio, with the aim of capturing the LGBTQ+ community through portrayals of protests, triumphs and celebrations.
Local artist Matthew Dayler of Chroma Projects designed the mural, which receives financial support from locally headquartered Procter & Gamble (P&G) and Cincinnati’s Career Pathways Initiative. P&G associates and Cincinnati Pride members also lended a hand in the painting.
Completion is expected in early August. By mid- to late-August a clear protective sealant will be applied and scaffolding removed. A dedication is scheduled for Aug. 27 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Queen City Radio.
“It’s amazing to be part of something so big with such genuine people who want to make an impact on the Cincinnati community,” Artworks Apprentice Samara Bill is quoted in the release. “I’m so excited to see the community’s reaction and for continuing to work with my amazing team.”
