The Eccles Conference Center at Peery’s Egyptian Theater, which was built in 1924 in Ogden, UT, will have little trouble conveying its upcoming events to the community, thanks to this stately message center. A YESCO 16mm-pixel, 64 x 144-matrix electronic display serves as its centerpiece, and the backlit, push-through channel letters are secured to steel pipes. Digital graphics were produced on an HP DesignJet L26100 large-format machine; handpainted accents complement them. The lenses on the pillars were routed from 0.187-in.-thick Lexan® polycarbonate, and the push-through letters were processed from ¾-in.-thick Acrylite acrylic – plastics were routed on a MultiCam 3000 Series CNC router. Metal components, built from 0.090- and 0.125-in.-thick, mill-grade aluminum, were MIG-welded with a Miller system; Sherwin-Williams automotive-finish coatings were sprayed on these components (the “eye of Ra” was fabricated from 0.040-in., anodized-gold-finish aluminum). GE Lighting Tetra LEDs illuminate the letters, and Litetronics narrow-profile floodlight LEDs power pillar lighting.

All government signage should look so stylish. Danthonia covered the aluminum substructure with “hammer-proof” polyurea-hardcoated EPS foam, and handcarved HDU to shape the letters and logo. The black-and-white, P16 display, built by Danthonia from components sourced from multiple vendors, features static or scrolling text, as well as animation. A web-based control system uploads content remotely from any Internet-connected device. Dulux Weathershield and Graffiti Buster paints protect the display from harsh Aussie weather and vandalism.
