Billionaire Acquires Signshop After Shutting Down Previous Sign Venture

National sign manufacturer Ziglin Signs (Washington, MO) has been acquired by The Hoffmann Family of Companies (“HFC”), a Naples, FL-based conglomerate led by billionaire David Hoffmann.

Ziglin Signs was founded in 1997 and occupies a 30,000-sq.-ft. facility that includes a two-story showroom. Because of its size, Ziglin is the preferred sign manufacturer for national brands including Margaritaville, Chipotle, Denny’s and Walmart, according to a press release from HFC.

HFC previously announced it would invest $150 million in the Augusta, MO area. Ziglin then became HFC’s go-to sign manufacturer and installer for various projects in the Augusta area, “making the decision to acquire the company an easy one,” the release says.

The acquisition comes a little more than a month after HFC shut down a signshop in its portfolio called Signcraft Signs & Things (Naples, FL), which operated for 40-plus years.

At the time of the closure, Hoffmann said Signcraft was the first company he ever had to shutter. “The company has lost money every year we’ve owned it,” he said. “It just didn’t make economic sense to keep it going.”

Ziglin will now absorb Signcraft’s clientele and add the southern Florida market to its current service areas of Missouri and Illinois.

With the acquisition, HFC is continuing its plan of “opening or acquiring a new business every 90 days for the foreseeable future,” the release adds.
