Boren Honored at ISA International Sign Expo

The International Sign Assn. (ISA), Alexandria, VA awarded the prestigious Kirk L. Brimley Distinguished Service Award to Kozell “Kozy” Boren during the ISA International Sign Expo in April.

ISA Chairwoman Teresa Young presented the award, citing Boren’s advocacy for the sign industry, including donations for research and projects.

Boren and Conrad Escalante founded Superior Outdoor Display in Long Beach, CA when Boren was only 27 years old. Boren eventually went on to become chairman and CEO of Signtronix, a large employee sign manufacturer based in Torrance, CA.

Boren’s son, Tom, accepted the award on his father’s behalf, noting, “The best way I can describe my dad is to say that he is an innovator, not an imitator. He always looks at ways to change things for the better.”

Kirk L. Brimley, the award’s namesake, was also at the ceremony.

Each year, ISA presents the award to a member who demonstrates outstanding dedication and service to the association. Award recipients are professionals in the sign industry who have made significant and substantial contributions to the on-premise sign industry over the years.
