Citgo Sign Catches Fire

During an off-day in the 2008 American League Championship Series, the Citgo sign, which is atop a building near Fenway Park, caught fire. Flames from the 60 x 60-ft. sign on Beacon St. were quickly extinguished. Damage was estimated at $5,000.

Although the newspapers reported that the sign is illuminated by neon, the EGL website (www.egl-neon.com) said the sign was rebuilt with LEDs in 2005.
