Daktronics Freeform LED Video Elements Animates Macau’s City of Dreams Logo

Daktronics Inc.’s (Brookings, SD) ProPixel® freeform video elements are animating the outdoor logo of City of Dreams, Macau, China’s newest casino resort. To ensure the logo could be seen both day and night, Daktronics applied its patented Echo™ color-matching technique, printing the colors of the resort’s logo into the outer housing of 1,660 ProPixel freeform puck elements.
During the day, the 7-meter-wide logo (on the side of one of the four City of Dreams towers) appears to be a static image. By night, the freeform puck elements animate the logo through LED color changes and washes. Echo color matching is designed for nighttime-viewing-only, LED-display applications.
Jon Settingsgard, Daktronics ProPixel product manager, said, “Daktronics has uniquely developed a display-camouflaging solution that can match the background color of virtually any color in the spectrum. We can now match multiple colors directly on the ProPixel puck housing, rather than just one solid color.”
Through Echo™ color matching, Daktronics can print any type of Adobe® RGB color-space color directly onto LED-element housings, which accommodates uniquely patterned projects and logos. Daktronics applies UV coating to the outside of the element housing for weather and scratch protection.
Similarly shaped as a hockey puck, Daktronics freeform puck elements, which comprise an individual pixel element, are suitable for projects with curved shapes in multiple dimensions. Automatic dimming sensors enable optimal and appropriate night viewing, ensuring the City of Dreams display doesn’t shine too brightly in the Macau sky.
