Digital Printer Buys Two Competitors in Two Months

Large-format printer O’Neil Printing (Phoenix) has acquired the nearby BuckAZ Communications, marking the second purchase of a competitor for O’Neil in the past two months.

BuckAZ Communications offers a variety of commercial services, including digital printing, and has developed a niche in the healthcare industry. Entrepreneur Jim “Buck” Johnson founded the company in 1998 after stints in aviation and real estate. He died last year after a battle with cancer.

In July, O’Neil Printing announced it had acquired Typography Unlimited, a Phoenix-based commercial printer. The purchase included Typography Unlimited’s subsidiary, Artcraft, which is a promotional products consulting business.

O’Neil Printing, headed by President Simon Beltran, is an employee-owned company. In 2019, it moved its headquarters from downtown Phoenix to the city’s border near Tempe.
