Don’t Cry for the Eagles

Mitubishi Electric Corp. (Tokyo) announced that Rakuten Baseball Inc. has installed a Diamond Vision large-scale display system at Kleenex Stadium Miyaga, home of the Tohuku Rakuten Eagles. The 20 x 16-meter, 1,036-in., high-definition, outdoor screen, installed above the stands between right and center fields, is the largest outdoor screen in Japanese baseball stadiums. High-luminance LEDs align in a 15mm-dot pitch, which allows the screen to display high-definition video content.
The Diamond Vision will be operational for the Eagles’ home opener, scheduled for March 27. The screen will complement the existing scoreboard, ribbon vision and T-LED displays.
Rakuten was the first Japanese baseball organization to introduce Ribbon Vision in a stadium in 2007, and T-LED, a T-shaped screen installed behind home plate, in 2009. Both screens were manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric Corp.
The stadium uniquely located each team’s bullpen beneath the stands, behind the dugout areas, which hides the bullpens from stadium spectators. Passersby, however, can watch warmups through curtained windows.
