Research shows New Year’s resolutions rarely work. The need for a new beginning resonates with me, however. There is something about the crispness of a clean calendar page, a month not yet overscheduled. And as we welcome a new year, Signs of the Times has new initiatives to share.

We’re launching our podcast, Signs Unscripted, in which we’ll chat with sign industry leaders about their ideas, common kvetches, tips for business success and more. Stay tuned on social media for all the details. Our individual account details are listed here: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter).

We’ve added a nomination process to our coverage of maker culture and innovation in the sign industry with a new spate of Makers of Tomorrow awardees for the February issue.

We’re hosting the 2019 Sign Invitational at this year’s ISA Sign Expo. The contest has an altruistic goal: to foster creativity and innovation in the sign industry. Entrants craft projects based on a new theme each year, rather than submitting client work. The results are stunning. Visit thesigninvitational.com for complete details, or come vote for your favorite at booth #2135. See you there!

Associate Editor Grant Freking is penning a new bimonthly column, Sign Face, featuring notable people in the signage and digital graphics industry. North American Signs (South Bend, IN) President and CEO John Yarger is up this month, and you can read about his tips for managing former coworkers and other bits of wisdom.

Finally, we’ve merged our indispensable Black Book print edition with our online Buyers’ Guide (buyersguide.signsofthetimes.com). The 2019 Black Book will mail with our March edition.

Whether you’re starting the year with a new resolution, or the resolve to never change, we’re here to support you. Let’s work together to move your business forward in 2019, 2020 and beyond.
