Gerber Exits Flatbed Market

Gerber Scientific Inc. (Tolland, CT) has announced its fiscal 2011, fourth-quarter transformation plan that has resulted in its Gerber Scientific Products (GSP) division’s departure from the flatbed-printer business. A company news release said GSP would continue to focus on its thermal printing products — the EdgeFx™ printer, Omega™ software and specialty graphics materials, as well as the M-Series cutters and Sabre™ cutting routers. GSP said its plant will immediately cease production of its UV flatbed printers, including the Gerber CAT™ UV and Solara ion™, but will continue to provide its existing flatbed-printer customers with access to service, support, parts and ink for five years from the date of its exit announcement. Gerber also reported that it has signed an agreement to sell its South Windsor, CT facility.
