The NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship, known more widely as the Final Four, has become a sporting event whose significance rivals the World Series and the Super Bowl. As “March Madness” and its annual rite of wagering on brackets – and the inevitable upsets that wreck most bettors’ chances of winning – wound into April’s final round, this year’s championship, which took place near Dallas, provided a festive atmosphere.
And, as expected with such high-profile events, signage played a vital role – dynamic digital signage (DS) in particular. GoVision LP, an Argyle, TX-based DS system integrator, bedecked both the scoreboards and sidewalls at Arlington, TX’s AT & T Stadium, where the games were played, and the March Madness Music Festival, which assembled Bruce Springsteen, Tim McGraw and other superstars who performed at an open-air venue in downtown Dallas.
On and above the court, GoVision installed five, a 3 x 50-ft., GV5 5mm-pixel LED ribbon boards for the five courtside scorers’ tables, as well as four video screens (two 18 x 40 ft., and two 18 x 15 ft.) installed below the stadium’s integral 60-yard-long video display.. The video wall was assembled from 468, 8mm-pixel Panasonic tiles. For the Music Festival venue, the company constructed five LED walls – two 9 x 16 ft., two 24 x 48 ft., and one 24 x 60. ft., and managed all video-production services for the three-day event.
Additionally, GoVision provided DS for the Infiniti-sponsored Tip-Off Tailgate and four, tournament-related corporate events. All told, the company coordinated 8,000 sq. ft. – and 11.5 million pixels – of video displays.
“We’re proud to have worked with the NCAA at the Final Four, and most of the regional tournaments, since 2008,” Chris Curtis, GoVision’s CEO, said. “Having the chance to work on this amazing event right in our own backyard was icing on the cake.”
