On May 8, 1886, when Atlanta pharmacist and inventor John S. Pemberton sold his first Coca-Cola at Jacbo’s pharmacy in Atlanta, he could have scarcely imagined it would become the multinational empire it is today. To commemorate the soft drink’s 125th anniverary, the Coca-Cola Co. hired Obscura Digital to develop an illuminated media facade for the company’s headquarters tower on North Ave. in downtown Atlanta.
The 339-ft.-tall projection, which is conveyed across a scrim canvas that envelops the entire building, was developed with 45, 20,000-lumen projectors that create a resolution of 7,040 x 3,800 pixels. The projection features 3-D projection of Coca-Cola’s iconic, contoured bottlle and a sequence of images from well-known ads created throughout the company’s history.
The program will run on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings throughout May.
