Sign Contest

Here Are the Winners of the 2021 Sign Contest

nother year has passed with Signs of the Times thrilled to honor the top signs of the past 12 months with our annual Sign Contest, now in its fifth decade. We made small adjustments to last year’s competition, removing our “small” and “large” company divisions and simplifying the requirements to enter the contest’s six categories. We’re happy to report that with a more positive health landscape emerging over the past nine months, we experienced an uptick in submissions for the 2021 contest — meaning signshops, sign companies, design firms, etc., were increasingly able to get back to what they do best (fabricate and design signage) and produce fewer pandemic-related products, which have (for now) decreased in necessity.

Our heartfelt thanks to four judges who sifted through images of over 160 entries across our six categories: Jenny Collins, owner of Widmer Sign Co. (Scranton, PA); Pablo Guerrero, owner and chief designer of Amigo Arts (Monroe, WA); Brent Tatum, owner of Wraps Ink (Murrels Inlet, SC); and the tandem of Amanda and Rusty Gibbs, co-owners of Gibbs Graphics (Leavenworth, WA), voting as one.

CITY IMAGE SIGNS’ “STAR MECHANICAL”

Shines bright to claim
BEST OF SHOW

They awarded “Best of Show” honors to “Star Mechanical” by City Image Signs in Edmonton, AB, Canada. This custom fasçia sign showcases a range of sign types and sign depths. The “Star” letters are 5 in. deep; the “Mechanical” letters are 3 in. deep; and the star icon is 3 ½ in. deep. The perspective lines shooting off the star icon are 1 ½-in., painted flat bar with SloanLED FlexiBRITE strips mounted to the face. This custom-built sign required all sorts of equipment, including a Summa vinyl plotter, a MultiCam router, a CLN of South Florida channel letter notcher, and City Image’s in-house spray booth. A well-earned congratulations to City Image for what was a total team effort.

Congratulations to the rest of the winners, and thanks to everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to enter the 2021 Sign Contest! Be on the lookout for next year’s contest information at signsofthetimes.com!
