According to a report published in November 17’s Tampa Tribune, Ikea, the Swedish-based, retail-furniture behemoth, seeks to install a 125-ft.-tall pole sign at its Ybor City store at Adamo Dr. and North 22nd St. The proposed sign would feature a three-sided sign with the store’s logo, and would reportedly include 600 sq. ft. of signage at its peak – more than twice the size of the store’s existing signage.
Eight Ybor City neighborhood groups, all of which oppose the sign’s size, met with Ikea officials, but an alternative option wasn’t reached. Store officials want to improve the store’s visibility along heavily travelled roadways. The store currently features a three-sided, 35-ft.-tall pole sign, which was constructed after the city granted an exemption on its 20-ft. height limit.
The Tampa City Council will vote on the proposal at a meeting on November 19.
